We Will Remember
A publication of 44 pages to mark the start of First World War has been put together by a small team of seven people. This is not however a Squeaker publication but a commemorative publication to mark the anniversary of World War One. The brochure has been has been funded by local Councillors of the Outer West Community Committee. 15,000 copies have been produced, of which, a significant proportion will be given free of charge to every pupil at primary and secondary school across the areas mentioned above. The remainder are to be sold, with funds raised from the sale of the booklet plus funds raised through other community projects passed onto Chris Simpson at Leeds City Council, to assist with their on-going Pudsey & District Memorial restoration projects. If the total fundraising exceeds the amount needed to fully restore our Cenotaph and War Memorials, then the excess amount will be donated to the District’s Poppy Appeal on behalf of the Royal British Legion. The aims of this brochure are fourfold; - To provide an engaging and interactive document that will be enjoyed by young people within our community. Hopefully the brochure will be a helpful learning resource that will act as a stimulus for projects within the classroom. - To provide context on the impact of war, not just in the trenches, but on the home front and in particular the communities of Pudsey, Calverley, Stanningley, Fulneck Farsley and Rodley. - To raise money for the renovation of Pudsey Cenotaph and the creation of the Brookfield Remembrance Park. Developments that reflect our respects, thoughts and gratitude to the men that served in World War One. - For you, the reader, to enjoy the brochure! There are interactive pages and competitions that I hope you take part in and take something from. There are many people to thank. Firstly, I would like to thank all the advertisers who have supported this brochure. I would also like to thank the Royal British Legion, in particular the Farsley & Pudsey and Calverley Branches. I would especially like to thank the following people who have contributed so much to this brochure and have made my job very rewarding. Lastly, I would like to thank all the local councillors, across party, who entrusted me to produce a booklet of such meaning and importance.
